Vegas Photog Shoot… GIVEAWAY!

Thursday, February 9th, 2012

This time last year Joe and I headed off to Las Vegas for WPPI.  I was SO excited to go…. and SO nervous about meeting other photogs and the events to happen.   Either that went out the window when I met Zach & Jody while checking in…. or I was more excited than nervous ;)

A few weeks before heading down there another photographer posted in a Facebook group that she wanted to do a mini type session with other photogs to get to know them.  I JUMPED at the opportunity since I needed some photos of me for my site.  This shoot started at 8am…. 8 is SO early in Vegas.  Don’t know if you know that.  So early (and I’m not a morning person to begin with) that I almost cancelled that morning.  SO glad I didn’t!!  Not only do I love the images (have them on my site, FB, even my family has them on their refrigerators)  but Karen has become such a good friend! And her husband too, so glad he is coming to Vegas this year!  The 20 minute session together just was not enough.  I wanted to get to know her better.  Thankfully social networking, a trip to Cali and singing made up songs to each other over Heytell have allowed me to get to know her, and call her a dear friend.

All of that started from her reaching out (I know she was nervous about it) and offering her time to other photographers.  And now… I feel like it’s my turn to pay it forward.  If all of that could happen from 20 minutes together…. what could happen if I offered 90 minutes with 2 photographers?  I’m not sure, but I’m will to try and see what will happen!

I have Monday (the 20th) morning and Wednesday (the 22nd) morning available and I want to spend some time with other photogs.  Hanging out, getting to know you, talking shop, talking life, AND giving you a photoshoot.  So if you are wanting to get together, or are in need of new photos for your site, blog, biz cards, whatever then lets get together!!!!  It’s giveaway time!

So here’s the deal!  2, count ‘em TWO winners will get 90 minutes to hang out, chat, become friends and have a photoshoot for YOU!!  Aw ya!  Now there are 4 ways to enter the giveaway and you if you enter more than one way you get more than one entry! So do them all for a better chance of winning! Here are the 4 ways!

1.  Leave a comment on this blog post! Tell me what excites you about this! :)

2.  ’Like’ the Facebook Fanpage and leave a comment that you are stopping by for the giveaway!  If you already like it and make another entry I will give you the extra entry for liking the Page!

3.  Post the following on FB ” I want to win a photoshoot giveaway with @Jacilyn M Photography [that should link to my page if you liked it] in Las Vegas! ”  Make sure to retype the @Jacilyn M Photography so that my page is linked and I can track it!

4. Or you can tweet out the following! ” I want to win a photoshoot giveaway with @jacilynm in Las Vegas! ”

My Vegas schedule filled up so fast I was afraid there wouldn’t be time for this and I’m SO excited to find some time to squeeze it in and get to know you!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!

The winners will be announced first thing on Monday morning! So get those entries in and share with a friend!  And we all know blog posts are much better with a photo sooooo here is one of my faves of Joe and I from Karen last year!

Monday Mashup for April 18th

Monday, April 18th, 2011

Um it’s Monday already?!  Seriously this year is going by SO fast.  I feel like I was just in Vegas for WPPI a few weeks ago, really that was 2 months ago! Wow!  So today’s Monday Mashup is a little short.  But these are the things that I LOVE today!

Sing by My Chemical Romance I am loving this song. I seriously turn it up and sing/scream out the chorus. I really love the chorus. I used to sing alot and music soothes my soul and this chorus really lets me feel like I can sing it out! If you don’t know the words here they are Sing it for the boys, Sing it for the girls, Every time that you lose it sing it for the world. Sing it from the heart, Sing it till you’re nuts, Sing it out for the ones that’ll hate your guts. Sing it for the deaf, Sing it for the blind, Sing about everyone that you left behind. Sing it for the world, Sing it for the world.
Jennifer Williams She is a photographer from Vancouver. I first stumbled along her wedding photography last year. But I have fallen in LOVE with her boudoir work. Amazing! Check her out. Someday when I do my own, she will be the lady. She inspires me in my boudoir work and I just can’t get enough of her blog!
Pinterest! So a lot of my friends have been using Pinterest and I thought it would just be something to distract me and take up time. Finally after seeing post after post of awesome things I started a Pinterest account. I use it as my reward after work. I get to play on there. I love it! It’s incredibly inspiring. I haev pin boards of photo inspirations, outfits I love, words to live by, things I want in my home, food, etc. If you don’t have it, then check it out! Especially if you are planning something like a wedding, or remodeling, or in need of an outfit. You can build a pin board with ideas or inspiring elements. It’s amazing! Check it!
Vancouver, British ColumbiaThis is my FAVORITE place in the World. Absolute favorite. I started going to Vancouver when I worked for an airline and flew for free every week. Finally I decided I needed a better job to make more money to move there. I was set on getting myself a little loft in Gastown. And then I met my husband, had a child. And I still hope someday I’ll end up there, not with a loft in Gastown now, but I’d take a townhouse downtown or a home in North Van. We scratched our Vancouver trip this year. And lately I’ve been missing the Vancouver BAD! So if you or someone you know wants a session or a wedding in Vancouver. I would SO be there!

Can you believe this weekend is Easter already?! Before you know it, it’ll be Labor day!

The Holidays are here!

Monday, November 22nd, 2010

Can you believe that Thanksgiving is in 3 days?!  Which means that Christmas is just around the corner.  I love this season.  Today is even better cause its snowing outside my window!  Right now with windchill its -1 degrees outside!  We’ll definitely be bundling up today as we go out to run errands!  My two year old, Cattie, saw the snow and said “MOM! ADD SLEDS TO THE LIST!”  Um, ok!  We are supposed to get 2-6 inches of snow today and I couldn’t be more excited!

And, since the holidays are here it’s time to send out those Christmas cards… and I promised I’d give away a set of 50 cards!  So guess who wins them?!

Or I can show you!

YAY! Matt & Meredith win!  I’ll email you two in a few minutes!  Thank you to all the families who booked their photo sessions.  I enjoyed every minute with each of you!

And, for a little holiday cheer I surprised Cattie yesterday with her own little Christmas tree for her room! She is the happiest toddler EVER!

Blessings & Cards – Personal

Saturday, November 6th, 2010

Wow, where have I been?  I just realized that I haven’t blogged for almost 2 weeks.  That’s crazy!  I’ve just been enjoying life.  Taking time to realize how blessed I am.  November is the month of Thanksgiving… well in the US anyway.  I like to spend a little time really thinking about what I have to be thankful for.  This November I’m overwhelmed with how blessed I am.  I have a beautiful caring and loving family.  A husband who provides for our family, loves me, and we laugh A LOT!  A gorgeous daughter who makes me proud to be a mother, every day.  A roof over my head.  A bed to sleep in, with a pillow.  Food on my table.  This year I started this photography business.  I just ran full force into something I love.  It has taught me so much, not just about my camera and the industry, but its taught me alot about myself, who I was, who I am, and who I desire to be.  Its pushed me to better myself.  And, I have the best clients ever! Dream clients, and I am so grateful for them!  I’m excited about the months and years to come.  I have so much to be thankful for!

Can you believe its actually November?!  Thanksgiving is coming up in 19 days.  My husband has started learning more about his camera and will be assisting me on the 27th for a fun autumn wedding!  Between now and New Years we have so much to look forward to.  And, not only that, we L.O.V.E the Christmas season, can’t wait to start playing some Christmas music, put the tree up, and wrap these presents I’ve been piling up the last few weeks.

We still have the 25% off a family session going on.  So book your session by the 21st and you’ll receive the 25% off and be entered into a drawing for 50 free Christmas cards.  The card ideas are endless.  There are so many options!  Here are just a few to give you an idea! Have a good rest of the weekend!

Ooooo Mini Sessions!

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

I am SO excited about these Halloween Mini-Sessions.  This is my first time doing mini-sessions and I can. not. wait!  While shopping for a Halloween costume for my own daughter I realized this was such a good idea.  Every year we buy a new costume for our children to wear out trick-or-treating.  They put it on, knock on some doors, then take it off and dig into all of the goodies in their bags or buckets.  Then we put them in storage, sell them, donate them and that’s it.  Why not take a few moments and get some photos of these kids enjoying their costumes?

So we’re going to have some fun!  We’ll go to the park set up some pumpkins and such, take some photos, and share some candy.  I can’t wait to capture fun moments with little ghosts, witches, goblins, fairies, and more.

We’re holding the mini-sessions at the park in Canyon Creek Village on Saturday, October 30th & Sunday, October 31st.  Each session costs $20 and lasts 15 minutes.  You’ll receive 10-15 different images.  Each session can have up to 3 children.  If you have more, no worries, it’s only $10 for each additional child and you’ll get an additional 10 minutes for each child.  We’ll take photos of each child separately and together of course.  I am so excited to do this and see all the fun costumes ideas you’ve come up with!  If you are interested in booking one of the mini-sessions contact me!  And share with anyone else you might know that would be interested!

Guy – Missoula Senior Portraits

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

If you remember, not too long ago, I ran a couple giveaways on the blog.  One was a giveaway for a free senior session.  I must have been too early for the seniors because Guy was the only one who entered.  So he wins!  I knew I liked Guy right away because I only received one email from him after I announced he was a winner.  He sent it at the beginning of the week and said Saturday, 10am, at Greenough let me know if that works.  I love when someone owns their photo experience, says this is what they want and when they want it.  I said yep I’ll be there!  We had so much fun with Guy.  He’s graduating from Hellgate High School this year, and it’ll be his 3rd time in the senior class photo.  He wasn’t held back! He just snuck his little way into the photo each year.  Well getting in the photo 3 out of 4 years, that isn’t so bad.  He is still undecided on where he’ll end up after college.  Maybe Chicago….. maybe somewhere in the northwest.  Well, Guy I’m sure you’ll find your way! Enjoy the rest of your last year of high school.  And, maybe the football team will continue to win…… maybe ;)

A website that has a mind of its own, & amazing food!

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010

The season’s have changed, my friends!  No complaints.  This is actually the first year in my life that I’m excited for autumn.  Usually I’d rather skip and go straight to a cold, snow covered winter, but this year… nope.  I am loving the crisp cool air, and cloud covered sun.  But the sniffles have come to my house :(  Today I was off to buy cold & cough medicine and LOTS of Puffs Vicks tissues.  And, yesterday was Labor Day! I think that’s a day that you are supposed to BBQ and not work or something.  I chose to work.  I checked off 85% of my work to-do list. YAY!  This afternoon when Molly called, as she always does on her lunch hour, we talked about how much I had done.  I was so excited cause this gave me time to update my blog, and maybe do some updating for the website.  Then…. I tell her I haven’t had an inquiry in weeks, which is strange, but left me time to do all of this stuff I wanna do, yada, yada, yada.  Then she says “Oh, one of the nurses said she contacted you off your website a couple weeks ago and never heard back.” Wait. WHAT?! A couple weeks ago?! Yes, after a quick investigation… the contact form on my website had decided it was no longer going to send me the message and info from you! I am so so so so sorry, if you tried contacting me and I did not reply! I promise I didn’t do it on purpose!  The contact form is now working! So if you were trying to get ahold of me you can try it again, or always feel free to get in touch with me on Facebook as well!

Today is our friend, Charlie’s birthday!  Happy Birthday, Charlie!  He always has a great party for his birthday and this year he asked if I’d come and take a few photos.  I of course said yes!  And my new camera had just arrived and I was so excited!  They had a little scotch tasting in the early afternoon.  Charlie loves scotch and well so do many of the people we know :) Then later in the afternoon was his actual party and his lovely wife, Sue, made some amazing food! AMAZING FOOD!  I have always struggled with photographing food, I don’t know what it is, but her amazing food was so easy to take a picture of :) So because we all know and agree that every post is better with photos here are a few of Charlie, his wife, good scotch (thats what they say, I wouldn’t know!), and some amazing food.

Ah the rain – Armanda – Portrait – Missoula, Montana

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

Its September! It’s raining!  I’m normally a person who just loves straight up sunny, hot, summer day or cold, snow covered, winter day.  I’m not into fall and spring.  I don’t know what it is, but I am loving the rainy, cloudy days.  Maybe I’m just really missing Vancouver, I don’t know!  So many exciting things are happening the next few weeks and I can’t wait! My nephew turns 2 this weekend, yay!  In a couple weeks I’m attending a week long photography workshop.  I. Can. Not. Wait!  I have never been in a workshop, a class, anything.  I’ve been to a few lectures which really were very very basic.  I’m entirely self taught so I can’t wait to have a week full of non-stop shooting and learning!  Then my niece turns one! Woohoo!  Then just after that I’m going to Pittsburgh and West Virginia for a week to visit family.  Well my little sister and I are going together and bringing our daughters, so a girls trip! Yay!

Not long after I started working on my photography a friend of mine, who also enjoyed photography, decided she’d start pursuing it as well. I love having friends who are as passionate about photography as myself.  She has been working on her portfolio and now is need of some photos of herself to use on her website.  So, this weekend we went out to take some photos.  Saturday we were out for about 20 minutes when dark black clouds and wind rolled in.  It was cold! So we went back out on Sunday in the rain to finish. I locked my keys in the car, found a bike that was missing a pedal, and laughed alot!
