Seniors have a new home on Facebook!

As of late I’ve been really focusing on specializing my business and honing in on my focus and truly focusing there. It’s tough, honestly. I am no longer taking on families, newborns, children. That was a hard one to swallow and it’s never easy telling someone who loves your work and wants you to do their photos in those categories that you just don’t do it. I don’t excel there and they deserve someone who does. As hard as it is, I’m happier with my life doing the things I love. My focus is weddings, I’m even beginning to focus in on specific weddings and more specific brides and grooms. Ones I relate better with, giving them an even better experience than I could others.

However I still do senior portraits. I love seniors. It’s such a carefree time in their lives. They are up for anything and just down for a good time. Being that the senior season here is only about 3.5 months of the year it’s perfect. If I have time between weddings and couples then I offer a few senior sessions. And I take soooo much from these senior sessions and use it with my brides and bridesmaids.

To keep moving forward with specializing and my focus I’m giving the seniors a new Facebook Fanpage!!! The main FB page, Jacilyn M Photography, will be dedicated just to weddings and couples, as it’s my main focus. I want brides and grooms to come to the page and see everything they are looking for right away, weddings and couples. And really the same for seniors. There will now be a place where seniors can see their photos, their friends, other seniors, etc.

So with that I now announce the new senior page: The JM Crew!

If you’re a senior definitely go like it, or if you like the senior portrait work go like it!! Lots of fun to be had there each year!

And because every blogpost should have one photo. And truly I’m better with pictures than words, check out gorgeous Miss Kenzie last night! She’s the first to make an appearance on the new fanpage! YAY!

Dani & Jake Christian | 2013 Senior Portraits | Sentinel High School

Jake, Dani and I went out last weekend for their senior portraits. And boy did it start off interesting. Every senior session has an adventure element to it and this one was definitely unique in its own way. Thanks to Jake’s smooooth talking, haha, and it turned out alright! Crazy adventure, bugs, mice, threat of rain, tromping around and we survived!! Had so much fun with these two! Oh for the record… they are twins!

I had to throw this image in. I just love this pure, raw, fun and laughter.

Summer. Crazy. Fun.

It’s Friday. June 29th. Um what-the-french happened to June? It’s like summer is 1/3 of the way over, sorta. I have signed myself up for a crazy ride over the next few months. Honestly I’m really pumped about it. It all starts this time next week. I’ll be franticly pulling out my bag, rolling clothes, double checking that I’ve packed every piece of camera gear I need. Then I’m hopping on a plane.

The next week I’ll be in L.A. for a crazy intense business workshop with Jeff Jochum. Jeff is a genius, f’real. I’m really excited. The craziest part of it is that it will all be streamed LIVE on the internet. So if you’re interested in some wisdom from Jeff, tune in. Then the last day all of us attendees pitch our business to Jeff and YOU and YOU get to vote on a winner! It’s like reality game show for photographers. Here’s more info on that!

The next day is Showit’s Global SHARE meetup! So if you are a showiteer make sure you get together with your SHARE group, or another showiteer and tune in on July 12th! Guests this month are the incredibly talented photographer Trevor Dayley, Jeff Jochum, and myself! Trevor and I will be giving you all the dirt on Jeff! No not really, but we will be talking about Fight Club the craziness and amazingness around it and all about specializing your business!

And the next morning I’m on a plane again to my FAVORITE place, Vancouver, British Columbia. I am SOOOO excited to be headed back there! See some friends, catch up with brides, shoot a gorgeous wedding with my Justine Russo and then finishing the trip with Justine helping me at a wedding. I’m SO excited!

Then it’s back home to my family, 4 portrait sessions a wedding and then off to Idaho for another wedding. And during all of this Joe and I are trying to buy a house. CRAZY!!!!!!!! But I wouldn’t have it any other way. And don’t worry I’ll be bloggin and instagramming through all of it!!! WOOHOO!!!

We’re waiting to hear back about an offer we put in on a house today and my anxiety level is through the roof! I’m off to get more coffee, of course! Happy Friday!!!!! Cross your fingers, say a prayer, send good vibes, or all of the above that we get this house!!

Lauren – The JM Crew | Missoula MT Senior Portrait Photography

For a while there I thought I might never find a senior rep from Hellgate High School. And then there was an email. Went something like ‘Hey I’m Lauren. I’m awesome. I have amazing hair and great legs. I’m also SUPER smart. And I really want to be your rep for Hellgate!’ Okay. I made almost all of that up. There was an email saying I’d love to be your rep, and I definitely said YES PLEASE!!!!! But seriously… she has AMAZING hair, super long legs (at least twice as long as mine), she is definitely awesome (reads minds even), and is super smart. Girlfriend, I’m already proud of you and SUPER impressed with your college options. YOU ARE GOING TO DO GREAT THINGS, no matter where you go! And to prove I’m not lying about her amazingness, see for yourself!

Senior Style | Light & Fresh

School may not even be out for summer yet but 2013 Senior season is here! It’s the middle of May and I already have an awesome lineup of senior sessions! So I’m starting to put together s senior style guide! FUN!!! Senior girls are always in a panic before the session wondering what am I gonna wear? They’re cleaning out their own closets, shopping and raiding their friends closets feeling like they have nothing. And then they show up with a car full of clothes and options, haha. Love you girls! Now with this new Senior Style Guide series you’ll have some ideas of things to throw in your car before your session

Ellen – The JM Crew | Missoula MT Senior Portrait Photography

Ah! I have the BEST senior reps EVER. Honestly having SUCH a blast with these girls. Last night Ellen and I met up for her fun little session. The girls almost always start off all nervous and by the end they are just killing it and that definitely happened last night. Ellen you are AMAZING! I can’t wait to do more together. I am not going to say much this time cause I think her images speak for themselves!

Joelle | Missoula MT High School Senior Project

This session was a ton of fun. Joelle is currently a senior at Big Sky and has been working on her senior project…. Modeling. I think she is killing it. Seriously. She’s been working with about 7 photographers on building up a portfolio full of different imagery. It’s crazy. I love it so much. I find it so exciting seeing all of her shoots come up on Facebook. She’s managed to work with quite a few of us and although we’re all in this smaller area each of us has a different style and she rocks each shoot. And her confidence shows. It was so much fun to click the shutter and have her just instantly switch poses. Ah! So much fun! So word for this shoot. FUN. haha.

Danielle – The JM Crew | Missoula MT Senior Portrait Photography

I am SO excited to share this session! Danielle is AWESOME! She joined the JM Crew and is one of my amazing senior reps for this next year. So pumped to have her. We met up this last weekend to have some fun and do a quick shoot. With in minutes the adventure had really started with getting her keys stuck down inside her truck. Ya can’t explain it but after breaking keychains and being covered in dirt they were rescued haha. I had so much fun with her and I can’t wait to spend more time together. I’m super proud of the person she is though. Her heart for giving back and desire to join the peace corp and study non-profit management just puts the biggest smile on my face!

The Senior Breakout – Las Vegas

My last day in Vegas I held a senior portrait photography workshop and it was a BLAST! I could not have asked for better attendees or models. We really covered so much. How to find seniors, approach seniors, what to sell seniors, offering rep programs, how to get seniors to talk, lighting and lots of shooting. I’ve been so proud to hear of some of these photographers going home and already receiving LOTS of feedback and inquiries from seniors based on them implementing some of the things we talked about and the new images they produced.

Through the Breakout Experiences I will start of a photo shoot, but then I let them take over. I don’t want everyone shooting the same image over my shoulder. I want to empower them to create great images, give them tips on lighting, posing and how to create better images in-camera! It was such a success and I loved every minute of it. Check out a few of the images I took and say hello to our gorgeous models Elizabeth-Ann & Emily who are not only real 2013 seniors, but also photographers themselves!

Kelly | Missoula MT Senior Portrait Photography

Last night I had SO much fun running around with Kelly and his family. Kelly’s older sister and I go way back. No need to mention how many years now Kelly is senior at Big Sky High School in Missoula and well he’s slightly on the shy side. That doesn’t bother me any! I’ll still talk your ear off With the assistance of his mother and sister doing rather awesome “dance” moves behind me and me crawling over a garbage can we borrowed from the park it wasn’t too hard to make him happy. Smoke has settled into the valley here, rather thick, and yesterday it made the sun and light orangey red which was kinda sweet later on when we took out the strobes! Senior sessions are meant to be fun. If you don’t have your family around jumping up and down, a photographer “borrowing” trash cans to stand on the whole night, wading in the river and/or waking up bums well then what is a senior session after all Kel I had SO much fun with you and your fam. ENJOY!
