Laura – Hamilton MT Trash the Dress | Portraits

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

AH! This session was so so so good for me.  I’ve recently felt like I was in this rut. Photography became solely work, going through the motions.  Started to feel like I was doing the same things over and over and I had lost this creative touch.  I’d pick up my camera for a session and then set it down not to be picked up until another session.  I stopped shooting for ME.  And us creative folk we need an outlet!  So late fall I knew it was time to start working on personal projects, not just sessions for clients.  One of the things I really wanted was a girl in wedding dress who would tromp around and let it get dirty.  So I posted it up on FB and Laura JUMPED on the opportunity.  I was STOKED.   A gorgeous girl, a fellow photog, a new friend, could this get any better?  Then she said she had horses.

Yesterday was a crazy day and truely, it wasn’t going well.  The morning was all over the place, I kind of wasn’t in the mood, I definitely wasn’t feeling it.  I hated it.  And it lingered the whole drive, this isn’t how I wanted to start this session.  This was supposed to be fun, adventurous, and an opportunity to step out of my rut.  Hey, guess what?!  YOU CHOOSE HOW YOU REACT TO OR IN A SITUATION!  Ya I know, no brainer.  But sometimes I need to pep talk myself, and by sometimes I mean VERY often ;)  A quick reminder that how this time went was something I would determine.  You wanna know how to start a shoot of right? HUGS! Hugs make everything better.  And from there we were off.

I’m so jacked about how these images turned out.  We were freezing but in my opinion, it was worth it.  So check them out! Then you should head over to Laura’s Facebook Page and leave her some love.  Cause, that’s what awesome people do ;)

Andrew + Kimmy | Santa Barbara California Engagement Photography

Monday, September 26th, 2011

While in California I had the opportunity to tag along with some great photographer friends to take  a few engagement photos of our dear friends Andrew & Kimmy.  These two are perfect for each other.  And by perfect I mean THERE IS NO ONE ELSE IN THE WORLD for either one of them.  They are that great together.  I only took a few photos during this time, just because I was really enjoying watching Karen, Trevor and Josh in their element.  Watching other photographers work is so insightful! I loved it.  Either way I think I captured a few good moments :)   All-in-all Andrew & Kimmy are awesome-sauce, nuff said!

Jaime + Justin | Missoula MT Engagement Photographer

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

I know every photographer says this, but I really do have the best clients EV-A! Seriously. I do. The other night I met up with Jaime and Justin.  These two are madly in love.  You can see it in their eyes, you can hear it in their laughter.  These are my clients.  People that love and laugh, and love to laugh *sidenote* :) They are getting married in just under a month and if this is a preview into the love and affection they’ll have on their wedding day, well I CAN. NOT. WAIT!

Another thing I love about this couple is that they love to joke around! I can’t get enough of it.

Okay, I’ll stop! :)

Less than one month til your big day!!!! I’m so excited for you two!

DVD’s… BYE BYE!!!!!

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

YES! I’m so excited to share this!  And ya you read that right.  See ya later DVD’s!  I am no longer offering DVD’s of your images.  I know some of my brides right now are like, wait what?! But you said!!  Don’t you worry! I have something MUCH better for ya :)

I’ve never really like the idea of DVD’s.  I feel like movies, cd’s, games, they all go missing ALL the time.  Or they get scratched and they’re ruined.  Every time I deliver a DVD to a client in my mind I think, “Man I hope they don’t lose it or scratch it”  I do keep wedding images for a while but not forever and I would hate the thought that some day down the road that disc would not work and they would only be able to access their tiny images they posted to facebook.  And Facebook just ruins photos and resizes them and they’d never be able to print them.  That might just sound crazy, I don’t know.  But I have a fun new solution!

The rad crew at Showit (the awesome folks who host my website and make my life somewhat easier) have build this awesome software that I can upload your images to and “pass” them to you to view, download, pick your favorites, post to facebook, etc. And even better your images are hosted with the cloud technology for a year for you to view. You can access your images on ANY device that you can get the internet. So you’re chillin in the airport talking with some great people on your way home from your honeymoon about how awesome your wedding was and all ya gotta do is pull out your phone, or ipod, or ipad and without having to save them to that device you can pull them up and share.  Now you can download them and save them to any device that you have so no worries there. And when you share the images on Facebook your friends and fam can see them at full-resolution rather than Facebooks terrible way of resizing them and ruining the quality of the image.  IT’S SO AWESOME!

Okay you may not have even caught all of that as I rambled off in excitement.  I promise you it’s killer and it’s so easy! A few weeks ago I did Christina & Shawn’s engagement photos and used them as my “guinea pigs” for PASS.  Well they loved and said it was so easy to access their images and download and that couldn’t make me any happier!  So for them I put together real quick this +site to share with their friends and fam to see all of their images :) Check it out!!! You can view the images full screen, pick your favs, share them to facebook, download them. Who needs DVD’s?

CLICK HERE TO CHECK OUT A PASS SITE :)

And no blog post is complete without a photo so I’ll give you a little sneak-a-peek at the next post….. CALIFOOOORRRNNNIIIAAAAAAAAAAAA

Christina + Shawn | Missoula MT Engagement

Tuesday, June 21st, 2011

Today is the first day of summer!! And it actually felt like it!  I think it has rained here everyday but one for the last MONTH! I’m over it.  So happy for sunshine today.  I have such an urge to go buy Cattie (my 3 year old) and I longboards today but we stayed in the backyard.  Should have since it was Go Skateboarding Day.  Now I’m determined to get us a few this summer!

So since it’s been raining everyday that would include Saturday.  Saturday night Joe and I headed out for an engagement session with Christina and Shawn.  It was only a steady sprinkle when we started and we thought it would stop soon.  It only got worse.  We were running from one spot to the next snapping photos as fast as possible.  I brought paper towels to wipe any spot we might want to sit at.  Those were gone fast and Joe ended up sitting and sliding to dry up seats.  We kept hoping the rain would stop.  But it really never did, so we stopped for dinner instead :)

Christina & Shawn, you two rock!  We had so much fun.  Wish all the best that life and love have to offer!!!

TGIF!! And upcoming special!

Friday, June 17th, 2011

It’s Friday, awesome people!!! I’m so excited. I wish this weather was more awesome and that it would start to look like summer. I’m beginning to get really tired of this gloominess! I have an engagement session tomorrow and I am STOKED! Can’t wait. Sooo……

Next Thursday is my 25th birthday! I have been afraid of 25 for years! I don’t know. Just have. Before I started this photography business I was just a stay at home mom. 25 was scary. I was married, had a child, didn’t finish my degree I kind of felt like I was turning 25 (supposed to be an adult at this age or something) and hadn’t accomplished anything. This year I am so excited for my birthday!!! Last year I started my own business and I’ve realized that yup at 25 I’m still allowed to be a child at heart so bring it on! And because it’s my birthday next week, I’m gonna run a special for you!

Starting on my birthday, Thursday, June 23rd, and ending on Sunday, June 26th all of my prices are 25% off! Ya, even wedding packages. So book whatever kind of session or event you want during those 4 days (book, not take place) and you get 25% off.

Portrait sessions will start at $135!
Senior sessions will start at $150!
Wedding Collections will start at $1312.50!

I may have lost my mind. Not sure. Don’t care. It’s MY birthday and I can do what I want. Right?!

Next week I’ll be back on track with blogging :) Including our California trip :)

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!

Julie + Dave – Hamilton Engagement

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Wow, I must have checked out on vacation a week early! It was never my intention to step away from the blog this entire time, it just happened. So now, it’s time to catch up!! May was a busy month with holidays, family graduations, vacation, I managed to find a little time one Saturday to drive down to Hamilton and meet up with Julie & Dave. They are my first wedding this summer and I can’t wait for the next few weeks to fly by so I can photograph their wedding. I met them at their venue to check it out and spend a few minutes taking some engagement photos of them. The venue is the incredible home hidden on the side of a mountain. I’m so excited about it!!! The property is huge so of the 26 minutes we wandered around a part of it we probably only really spent 10 minutes taking photos. Can’t wait to go back up there with them! Til then. Enjoy a few of the photos from that afternoon :)

And I just LOVE her custom ring. LOVE IT! So unique.

Big Sky Photo Summit – Dane Sanders

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

Day 2 in a row of blogging…. WHAT! Ya, this is actually kinda fun! And today I’m gonna share a little about my time at Big Sky with Dane Sanders!  Dane is such a great motivational speaker.  You can’t listen to him and not be engaged in the conversation.  Dane challenged me to commit to things and to accomplish these things that I have committed within a week of leaving Big Sky.  Well a week is tomorrow and my business has really changed and I’m EXCITED about it!

(PS this is what I look like after 16 hours of sleep in 4 days!)

Dane forced me to ask myself questions I normally avoid.  I avoid them because I already know the answer, I just don’t wanna face it so I ignored it all together.  But, I like this! I love the challenge.  I’m not gonna talk too much on this post.   I wanna share a few things that Dane had to say that really stuck with me.  THEN!!!  I will share a GIVEAWAY! Yay! And some photos for a SUPER quick engagement sesh with Dane :)   So photogs read these few things and really think about them, they could change you and your business!

  • Integrity with myself means I have no choice but to create!
  • Release my successes to create anew!
  • Be willing to make mistakes, intentionally! (What could happen if you did?)

Now…. a giveaway.  This giveaway is the perfect giveaway for photographers!  I have a copy of both of Dane’s books, Fast Track Photographer & The Fast Track Photographer Business Plan!!!

AND!!!!!!!! Dane has signed these books for you!!!  These 2 books are AWESOME! I personally think we should all read them and STUDY them!  The first book I read just as I was starting photography.  It put me on the right path, helped me decide what type of photographer I wanted to be and how to get there! I have not finished the 2nd book because I’m studying it.  These 2 books you can’t just rush through, let them sink in!  They will change you and your business, I promise.  If you haven’t read them then here is your chance to own them!  So if you want in on this giveaway here is whatcha gotta do:

  • Comment here on the blog why you want these books, and what you hope to learn from them!
  • Hop on over to Facebook and share this blogpost! Tag the fanpage in your post! I believe in the power of giving so give your friends a chance to win too!
  • Then if you want some extra points tweet about this awesome giveaway of Dane’s autographed books and tag me in the tweet (@jacilynm).  And if you aren’t following Dane or I, do so! We’re fun, I promise!

I will announce the winner of the books on Tuesday, the 15th!!!!

Candice & Pat – Engagement – Missoula, MT

Sunday, November 14th, 2010

I LOVE my couples! And, this couple is no exception.  A week and a half ago we met and talked about their wedding.  They decided on a day after shoot instead of the engagement shoot, but a few days later we all knew we had to do an engagement session too.  So yesterday, Saturday, we met at 7am, ya, 7am.  Hoping we might have a gorgeous sunrise, but instead it was a cloudy and 36 degrees.  I haven’t done an early morning shoot yet, but it was so much fun.  We wandered around downtown, along the river, stopped for some coffee, and laughed, alot!

They met while in college at Montana State University.  Candice went to class with her friend one day, her friends class, not her own!  Pat caught her eye.  They smiled at one another and that was that.  So, the following week she went to her friend’s class again in hopes of seeing Pat again.  He was there, their eyes met, and the smiled at one another.  Just as they had the week before.  And again that was that.  The next week Candice wasn’t going to go, but her friend threatened that if Candice didn’t go and talk to him, she would pass him a note saying “Call me Baby!” with Candice’s phone number. Of course Candice didn’t want this to happen, so she went.  After class Candice and her friend walked out slowly, in hopes Pat would meet up with them.  He did, and Candice said, “Hey!”  He said hey back, they exchanged names and shook hands.  So the next week Candice went to class again, did the slow walk, Pat met up with them. They said hey again, but Pat had forgotten her name.  Candice asked for his phone number, he asked for her name.  The rest is pretty much history.

Pat later decided that MSU wasn’t working for him and transferred to the University of Montana in Missoula.  Candice later followed.  And, in July they’ll exchange vows in a gorgeous church in Missoula, and party the night away in a beautiful restored historic building.  They’re doing what they can to have an eco-friendly wedding with a vintage theme with lots detail, including 1000 paper cranes made from magazine pages!  I can’t wait to photograph their beautiful day.  And, I’m so excited to have new friends!  Here they are: CANDICE & PAT!!!!

Want to see more?!  Well then check out the SLIDESHOW!
