About Jacilyn M

I believe that life is an adventure. An adventure I only get once, so I live it to the fullest. I live out my dreams. I enjoy travel. Consume WAY too much coffee. Laugh really loud. Really like winter. And, I photograph it as I go. And this, this is where I share the story of it all.

Stefanie and I have been close friends since we were 9. I won’t mention how many years that means we’ve been friends. A few, just a few years anyway ;)  Her and Shawn have been together something like 6 years and I’ve been waiting for the engagement to come. It finally did and I could not be any more excited for them.  And although I can’t be there for their wedding I’m so honored that Stefanie asked me to photograph a few engagement photos for them.  I’m so happy for them! Congratulations Stef & Shawn!

Mary + Axel | Missoula Montana Engagement Photography

Monday, March 4th, 2013

I returned home late Thursday night from UNITED 2013. I’ll be blogging more this week on UNITED.  Friday I decided to stop working and spend the day with my daughter. But honestly I was tired. I didn’t feel all there. I began to think that planning an engagement session for the Saturday right after getting back was a bad idea. It was quite the opposite. It was the best thing I could have done!! Truly!

Mary is from Salt Lake and Axel is from Western Washington. They met in the middle at the University of Montana in Missoula. There wedding is happening the end of May in beautiful Salt Lake City. I really had so much fun with these two.  Mary and I had been chatting for weeks prior about their engagement session. I’m so honored that they asked me to do these photos for them!  Mary & Axel congratulations! I know you’re wedding is going to be simply amazing. Enjoy ever second, it goes by way too fast!

Travis + Heather | Bozeman MT Winter Engagement Photography

Monday, February 4th, 2013

Heather went to high school with alot of my close friends. A couple years ago one of my best friends (who actually knows Heather) asked me if I’d photograph her and her fiance for their engagement session. I said yes! Lord only knows why and I quickly realized I hadn’t really done a formal photo shoot of anyone. Just had been chasing my daughter around. So I called up my friend Molly and said “GIRL!!!! I need to take you out and work on shooting and posing you.” We did that and I posted the photos to FB and Molly told her friends to check them out. Heather is Molly’s friend. Heather checked out the photos. From then on Heather has been following my work and was set on booking me as soon as she got engaged one day.

Well the day came and Travis proposed. Heather emailed and booked, just about instantly.  We’ve chatted over email and I’ve heard so much about her from all of our mutual friends, but last weekend I FINALLY got to meet her and Travis. And photograph their engagement session. We headed out to a farm in Bozeman, the snow glistened, and sun shined. The snow was deep. Up above my boots that come to my knees filling them with snow. But it was SUCH a good time. These two are so much fun and I’m so stoked for their wedding this August at the Broken Hart Ranch!!

Caty + Andy | Missoula MT Mountain Winter Engagement Photography

Monday, December 31st, 2012

A couple months ago I received an inquiry from Caty about wedding photography. She had me laughing through her whole email and I knew I had to have this girl as one of my brides.  I responded and we emailed back and forth several times in the middle of the night that night. I couldn’t wait to meet her. And her fiance, he’s the older brother to one of my favorite seniors that I photographed this summer. This was meant to be.

Yesterday I rushed home from a family getaway in Idaho to photograph these two. We headed out into a little wilderness area. And let me tell ya they were troopers. 20 degrees, snow falling, trekking through snow, not one complaint. After a little fun in the snow we headed downtown for a few shots outside Stockmans.  Yup they met at Stocks. For those of you who don’t live here or know anything about Stocks. We’ll leave it that way ;) For those that do, well that’s where they met. Both being DD’s for their friends. Neither happy to be there. But they at least had each other. And that’s where this romance starts.

So excited for their wedding on McDonald Lake up in Glacier at the end of the summer. I mean. I can’t even contain how excited I am. Love you two, AND your families. Photographing your engagement session was the perfect way for me to end 2012! ENJOY!

Dustin & Rebecca | Maple Ridge BC Engagement Photography

Friday, August 31st, 2012

In July I took this awesome trip up to the Greater Vancouver area to have some fun with my awesome friend, Justine, who also happens to be a wedding photographer! In the 10 days we spent together we were able to shoot 2 weddings and engagement session. Seriously sooo much fun. One day after a little lunch we headed off for IKEA. My favorite place. Seriously. I’m obsessed in a super unhealthy way. Roamed around, shopped, had some hot dogs, slammed some kitchen drawers shut. Well ya know they don’t really slam, you can slam them as hard you want but they stop JUST before closing and then close on their own. I like ‘em. And I slammed ‘em. A lot.

After that we headed over to New Westminister for Sydney & Aaron‘s rehearsal at Queens Park. Justine and I were on cloud nine. Incredibly gorgeous couple with an also incredibly gorgeous bridal party in the one of the most amazing locations we have ever seen. Seriously IKEA, gorgeous couples, gorgeous bridal party, amazing locations <— wedding photographer dream land!  We were excited. Our day couldn’t get better.  Then we made a little stop at Tim Hortons in Maple Ridge to meet one of Justine’s couples for an engagement session.

Our day got better. I can’t recall the actual words that came out of my mouth but as I plowed a donut in my mouth I looked out the window and here came Dustin and Rebecca. Super hotties. I am certain that Justine and I have the best looking couples of all-time. Blessed, folks, we are blessed! I had the pleasure of running around with these two and Justine and snapping a few images here and there.  Excited to share their gorgeousness! To see more go over to Justine’s awesome blog and check ‘em out!

Bittersweet | Vancouver BC Wedding Photography Travel

Monday, July 23rd, 2012

Home. After 3 weeks on the road. But, I miss the road. Honestly. I guess maybe I’m not much of a home-body.

Part 1 of my trip I was down in Southern California. Enjoying Santa Barbara, Anaheim, Fight Club workshop, new friends, old friends, Global Share, fun, and more fun.

From there I went straight up to Vancouver, my FAVORITE place. Absolute, by far, favorite. Flew in there all exhausted from California and drove straight out to Chilliwack to stay with my friend Justine.  Chilliwack is out there, haha. I never really put together how far it was from the city until I started driving

I had such a blast with Justine, her husband (Marco) and their son, Luca.  Lots of laughing, lots of eating, lots of on-the-go, and plenty of shooting.  I was Justine’s second shooter for a wedding the day after I got there at the Langley Golf Centre. So much fun.

Followed by some shopping, rehearsals, met up with another friend and photographer Matt Kennedy. Then an engagement session with one of Justine’s amazing couples. Felt good to get back into the woods a little at the river :)

Followed by days of random fun and chaos, cause that’s how we roll :)

And Sydney and Aaron’s AWESOME wedding at Queens Park in New Westminster.  Seriously adore this couple and their bridal party. Heck their whole guest list. I seriously just wanted to stay, dance and party all night with them. I could not be more happy for them!

Then Saturday was kinda a chill relax day. Well that’s what I did with it, haha. Justine captured some killer images of me for my upcoming new site. LOVE them. Stoked.

Then yesterday it was time to come home. I decided I’d leave Chilliwack earlier in the morning to spend some time in Vancouver cause I’d kick myself if I was in the area for 10 days and didn’t actually spend time in the area I love. I ended up heading up to North Van and having a fun little relaxing day. Love it up there, want to live there oh-so-bad haha.

It is soo soo good to be back and see family and friends again. But I’m definitely crossing my fingers for many more opportunities to head up to Vancouver and shoot weddings and engagements. Until then, well there is LOTS of shooting happening in the upcoming weeks :)

The Breakout Experience – Missoula

Monday, April 30th, 2012

The Breakout Experience went down in Missoula this last weekend. It was SUCH a blast. I enjoy teaching and helping other photographers SO much!! I can’t even tell you how much. To see them light up with excitement, take TONS of notes, mention how rejuvenated they feel, and their permagrins after the shoot, make it SO exciting!!  I love to challenge them to make goals and reach them. And along the way I even find ways to challenge myself. SUCH A GREAT TIME!! If you’re interested in the workshop check out the website for more info :)

We did the shoot yesterday morning out in a wooded area.  During the shoot we spend alot of time discussing and learning how to bring out true emotion in their images. I do alot of this through “role-play” situations. We work through different ways and scenarios to get them engaged and capture their true smiles, laughs, kisses. Not only that but it such a FUN time. Even the couple end up having a fun time.  Lauren and Kolten were AWESOME and such troopers through the whole thing and I’m SO excited about these images! Check them out!

See all of their images on their custom website!

Laura – Hamilton MT Trash the Dress | Portraits

Friday, February 3rd, 2012

AH! This session was so so so good for me.  I’ve recently felt like I was in this rut. Photography became solely work, going through the motions.  Started to feel like I was doing the same things over and over and I had lost this creative touch.  I’d pick up my camera for a session and then set it down not to be picked up until another session.  I stopped shooting for ME.  And us creative folk we need an outlet!  So late fall I knew it was time to start working on personal projects, not just sessions for clients.  One of the things I really wanted was a girl in wedding dress who would tromp around and let it get dirty.  So I posted it up on FB and Laura JUMPED on the opportunity.  I was STOKED.   A gorgeous girl, a fellow photog, a new friend, could this get any better?  Then she said she had horses.

Yesterday was a crazy day and truely, it wasn’t going well.  The morning was all over the place, I kind of wasn’t in the mood, I definitely wasn’t feeling it.  I hated it.  And it lingered the whole drive, this isn’t how I wanted to start this session.  This was supposed to be fun, adventurous, and an opportunity to step out of my rut.  Hey, guess what?!  YOU CHOOSE HOW YOU REACT TO OR IN A SITUATION!  Ya I know, no brainer.  But sometimes I need to pep talk myself, and by sometimes I mean VERY often ;)  A quick reminder that how this time went was something I would determine.  You wanna know how to start a shoot of right? HUGS! Hugs make everything better.  And from there we were off.

I’m so jacked about how these images turned out.  We were freezing but in my opinion, it was worth it.  So check them out! Then you should head over to Laura’s Facebook Page and leave her some love.  Cause, that’s what awesome people do ;)

Andrew + Kimmy | Santa Barbara California Engagement Photography

Monday, September 26th, 2011

While in California I had the opportunity to tag along with some great photographer friends to take  a few engagement photos of our dear friends Andrew & Kimmy.  These two are perfect for each other.  And by perfect I mean THERE IS NO ONE ELSE IN THE WORLD for either one of them.  They are that great together.  I only took a few photos during this time, just because I was really enjoying watching Karen, Trevor and Josh in their element.  Watching other photographers work is so insightful! I loved it.  Either way I think I captured a few good moments :)   All-in-all Andrew & Kimmy are awesome-sauce, nuff said!

Jaime + Justin | Missoula MT Engagement Photographer

Thursday, July 14th, 2011

I know every photographer says this, but I really do have the best clients EV-A! Seriously. I do. The other night I met up with Jaime and Justin.  These two are madly in love.  You can see it in their eyes, you can hear it in their laughter.  These are my clients.  People that love and laugh, and love to laugh *sidenote* :) They are getting married in just under a month and if this is a preview into the love and affection they’ll have on their wedding day, well I CAN. NOT. WAIT!

Another thing I love about this couple is that they love to joke around! I can’t get enough of it.

Okay, I’ll stop! :)

Less than one month til your big day!!!! I’m so excited for you two!
