Wait, whaaaaat is happening with family portraits?

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

Recently I made an announcement regarding family and children portraits.  I’ve come to realize through conversations with others that people were very confused by this and I want to clear it up! I have heard a few different versions of how people interpreted what was happening.  Not just from clients, but also from friends, and even family.  Some read it as I don’t do, nor will I ever, do family portraits again.  Some even understood it as I’m not doing portraits at all anymore  JUST weddings.  Neither of these is true and I realize I definitely need to clarify!

I started my business just over a year ago and through this first year I photographed anything that anyone would let me photograph.  Over that time I’ve come to realize where my strengths lie.  Photography is much different than the corporate world in that large businesses look at where they are weak and how they can make that better, focusing on that.  As a photographer I look at my strengths and build on how I can make them even better.  So I sat down and looked at what I’m good at, how I can continue doing it and where I ultimately want to take my business this year.  In that time I found that my strengths lie with weddings, couples, seniors, fashion, and helping other photographers. Because of this I have started some larger projects that I’m very excited about.  But because I’m taking on larger projects, I have less time for other things.  I don’t hate family photos, or children, or newborn.  I’m just stronger somewhere else in my field.  I have MANY clients that I have done family photos for and they have mentioned how much they want me to continue doing them.  I LOVE that.  And, I’m open to that.  So my final decision has been made that I will not take on family or any children photos throughout the year at any time.  INSTEAD twice a year I will offer mini-sessions.  Mini sessions are just as session that is shorter than a regular session, therefore a few less images, and most definitely a great bang for your buck.  This way I can still spend some time with families, yet devote most of time to these larger projects I dream of.

I understand this might be slightly confusing as yesterday I posted a family session.  This one had been planned out prior to my changes.  But also the husband/father is in the military and currently deployed to Afghanistan.  His leave schedule didn’t correspond with my mini-session dates.  I have a big heart for military and would NEVER say sorry only on a mini-session days if in this situation.  So while he was home I gladly photographed their family.  SO if you are someone who wants family photos with a situation similar to theirs but mini-session dates do not work please do not hesitate to ask!

Right now I have 2 days before the end of the year for family photos.  It’s the perfect chance to get in photos for those holiday cards!  You have the choice of no snow (hopefully no rain) October 22nd, or hopefully snow on December 3rd.  There are limited sessions and they have already started to book so if interested contact me right away to block your space!  These sessions are 30 minutes.  Just enough time to get some photos of the whole family, some photos of the kids together, individual and even sneak in a few of just mom & dad at the end!  Then you will receive 20 digital images that you can download to your own computer, cell phone, share with family and friends, etc. You can even have them printed yourself, or order your prints through me and receive a 20% discount on print prices!

I hope that is of some clarification.  Family and children will have 2 designated days per year, and a limited availability.  Through out the year I will still be accepting weddings, couple sessions, senior portraits, and fashion shoots!

Cheers!

New Directions!

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

I’m sooooo excited where my business is going.  And it’s definitely taking a new direction.  I am a dreamer.  The type of person that lays awake at night dreaming of all kinds of places I could be, things I could do, just only if…. The dreams you don’t ever imagine coming true.  Things you “can only dream of.”  That’s who I am.

Recently I told some of my dear friends one of my dreams.  Something I’d love to do (that involved my business) and how amazing it would be if only I could do it.  Their response to me was…. “Well, do it!”  I realized I often spend too much time dreaming and not enough time putting effort into these dreams and taking steps toward them to make them goals rather than dreams.  So I took a risk made some contacts and I’m excited to say that it’s happening.  You’ll have to wait to find out what exactly I’m up to, but I’m excited to make this turn in a new direction and live out a dream.

With that I have to make some changes.  Starting now I am only booking weddings and senior portrait sessions.  I am no longer accepting family or children sessions throughout the year.  AH!  ALTHOUGH!!!! I will be doing 2 family mini-sessions each year in the fall and winter for the holidays.  I know the holidays are a time when everyone needs a new family photo for those great Christmas cards so I’ll be offering the mini-sessions which may be more bang for your buck! :)

This years 2 mini-sessions will be held October 22nd and December 3rd.  I wanted to give everyone the option of snow or no snow images :)   The mini-session will last 30 minutes and includes 20 images available for you to download to your computer, smartphone, share with family and friends, share on Facebook, etc. And along with that you get a discount of 20% of prints if you are in need of that photo printed and in your hand, cards, or even framed on the wall!  The openings for each day are VERY limited.  December will have even less openings than October as we move a bit slower when it’s colder out!  So if you are interested in booking a mini-session I encourage you do so right away as there aren’t many available!  Even better, the session only costs $85!!!!!  Interested? Contact me!

Can you believe we’re already talking about the holidays?!  Can’t believe September snuck up on us!  Keep checking back as I will continue to share more about my new direction :)   If you’re like me and a dreamer, I challenge you to stop dreaming and make it a reality :)   Just try it!

Hall Family – Missoula MT Family Newborn Photography

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

I haven’t blogged in a while!  I have been working on a couple of exciting things that I hope to finish very soon and present :)  Life seems to be out of control and it’s not even wedding season!  If you pray please take some time each day to pray for Japan.  There is alot going on there!  They need all of the help they can get! So my prayers go out to them.

This weekend I had an awesome opportunity to photograph the Hall family and their 2 new additions.  Joe and I have known this family for a few years now.  They had been trying to have a child for quite a few years, even back to when I was pregnant with Cattie.  Finally the good news came that they were having a boy!  Soon after even better news came…. they were having twins!!  They have a 6 year old son and were hoping so badly for a little girl and their prayers were answered!  February 28th a little boy AND a little girl entered the world! They are darling and they are SO blessed to have some of the most awesome parents out there!!!  I couldn’t be more happy for them! So WELCOME Baby K’s!!!

Little Miss Hailey – Missoula MT Children Photography

Wednesday, February 16th, 2011

A couple weeks ago I met a beautiful little girl, Hailey.  She was a little shy.  Not sure what to think of me or the camera. But she definitely liked seeing photos on the back of the camera.  Maybe one day she’ll be a photographer, enjoying too much time behind the camera instead of in front of it!  I love shy children.  I think because my own child is out-of-control-high-energy that shy kids are so sweet and innocent.  Most of the session I just sat back and watched Hailey, let her be in her own element and just capture some moments of her being herself.  I love how sweet these photos are! I hope her family loves and enjoys them for many years to come!!! Enjoy sweet, little, Hailey!

And some love for her cousin!

Ashley & Dalton – Maternity – Darby, MT

Saturday, December 4th, 2010

I love photographing the beginning of a new family!  A glowing mother-to-be and a giddy father-to-be, who doesn’t know what to do with himself.  What isn’t amazing about that?!

Ashley’s family gifted her with a maternity, newborn, 6 month, & 1 year session for her baby shower.  So, friends, we’ll be seeing much more of the Christopherson family this next year and I, personally, can’t wait!  On Sunday, Joe & I, drove down to Darby to photograph Ashley and her husband, Dalton.  They had a couple fresh inches of snow which was gorgeous on the trees.  They have a beautiful property full of everything they love, dogs, trees, barns, farm equipment, and cows.  Dalton loves his cows! :)

They are expecting their first child, a little boy in a few weeks!  Congratulations you two!  I can’t wait to photograph him next month!

Kady – Missoula Children

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Yesterday Kady turned 5 years old.  5!  I can’t believe it.  I brought Cattie along with me for the first time ever.  We went down to a park near my house and the girls played non-stop.  When I first started pursuing photography  I did a few shoots with children and I wasn’t a fan.  I was almost against ever doing them again.  I now realize that was just because I was learning and children are FAST! I couldn’t keep up with them.  I could barely keep up with Kady yesterday, but I had so much fun and enjoyed every minute.  I hope I have the privilege of photographing many more children!  Kady already gave me her blessing to come and take pictures of her when she turns 6, haha.

Within minutes of her arriving at the park, she was already giving me some great poses!

I knew from that moment this was going to be fun!  And it sure was! Happy Birthday, Kady! I hope you have the best princess party EVER!

Independence Day!

Monday, July 5th, 2010

I love 4th of July weekend!  Usually it marks halfway through summer, but this year its more like, barely the beginning of summer?  We always head up to Northern Idaho to the family lake house and celebrate with some relaxation, fun with the family and friends, some fireworks, and some good BBQ!  I love it!  We drove up on Friday and just returned home tonight.  And, I read a book up there! I never have time at home to just sit back and read, although at the lake I always have that time and I really, really enjoy it! I hope fall doesn’t come too early so that we can spend some more time up there in the sun and on the lake!

Matt, Meredith & Olivia – Family – Missoula, MT

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

The other night I walked over to Matt and Meredith’s house to snap a few photos of them and their new baby.  Joe came with me. Him and Matt work together so we just kind of made it a social engagement :)  Matt definitely gave us the wrong address!  We dropped of Cattie at my sister-in-laws and thought they lived the next block down.  WRONG!  Joe and I walked through the neighborhood for 30 minutes til we found their car outside a house with all the same numbers as the house number Matt gave me, but in a different order :)  Joe had seen Olivia already and I had only seen pictures and there she was resting peacefully!  We munched on some strawberries, cookies and fresh pineapple.  Fresh pineapple is SOOOOO good.  It was just a real casual get together and a few photos.  We watched ‘How I met your mother’ while I photographed.  Very funny!  Would add it to my list of shows, but I just don’t have much time for that television thing.

Anyways I could go on and on and on! So you better enjoy some photos before I do go on!

Sean, Staci & Kaden – Family – Missoula, MT

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

A few days ago my sister-in-law asked if I would do a few family photos for them.  OF COURSE! So today we went over to their house and had some lunch.  Then we went down the road to this abandon old railroad car to take a few photos.  We had to go and go fast cause the kids were insisting they play in the pool ASAP!!!!!! So we snapped a few, played in some grass and then headed back to the house for some pool time!

So since I can’t share pool time with you… I’ll share some family photos! Enjoy!
